روضه اول / The First Garden

The First Garden (Rowze) of the Baharestan

Jami's Baharestan is organized into eight gardens (rowzeh). The first garden is devoted to the sayings, spiritual states, and wisdom of Sufi shaykhs and saints. Each of its sections pairs a maxim attributed to a mystic - such as Abu Bakr al-Warraq or Ibrahim Khawwas - with Jami's own verse elaboration, teaching virtues such as contentment, trust in the divine allotment of sustenance, and the perils of greed. Section 27 and Section 28 both belong to this first garden.
