Why Material Costs Are Harder to Control Than Labor

Materials are a major direct cost on electrical jobs, but they are managed differently from labor. Labor is incurred as work is performed. Materials must first be ordered, then received, stored, issued, tracked, and finally installed. Each step creates a chance for delay, damage, theft, shrinkage, or price change. That multi-step path is what makes material control more operationally demanding than labor control on most projects.
