متن و ترجمه / Text and Translation

از خدا جوییم توفیق ادببی ادب محروم گشت از لطف رب
We seek from God the grace of proper conduct;
The discourteous one is deprived of the Lord's grace.
بی ادب تنها نه خود را داشت بدبلکه آتش در همه آفاق زد
The discourteous one does not only harm himself;
Rather, he sets fire to all horizons.
مایده از آسمان در می رسیدبی شری و بیع و بی گفت و شنید
A heavenly feast used to descend from the sky,
Without buying and selling, and without dispute.
در میان قوم موسی چند کسبی ادب گفتند « کو سیر و عدس ؟»
Among the people of Moses, a few individuals
Discourteously said: 'Where are the garlic and lentils?'
منقطع شد خوان و نان از آسمانماند رنج زرع و بیل و داس مان
Thereupon, the table and bread from heaven were cut off,
And we were left with the toil of farming, spade, and sickle.
باز عیسی چون شفاعت کرد حقخوان فرستاد و غنیمت بر طبق
Then, when Jesus interceded with God,
He sent down a table of bounties on a platter.
مائده از آسمان شد عائدهچون که گفت انزل علینا مائده
The heavenly banquet became a blessing,
When he said: 'Send down upon us a table [from heaven].'
باز گستاخان ادب بگذاشتندچون گدایان زله ها برداشتند
Again, the disrespectful ones abandoned courtesy,
And like beggars, they snatched the leftovers.
لابه کرده عیسی ایشان را که ایندایمست و کم نگردد از زمین
Jesus pleaded with them, saying: 'This is
Perpetual and will never decrease from the earth;
بدگمانی کردن و حرص آوریکفر باشد پیش خوان مهتری
To harbor suspicion and exhibit greed
Is ingratitude before the table of a great host.'
زان گدارویان نادیده ز آزآن در رحمت بریشان شد فراز
Because of those blind-eyed beggars, out of greed,
That door of mercy was shut against them.
ابر بر ناید پی منع زکاتوز زنا افتد وبا اندر جهات
The cloud does not rise when charity is withheld,
And plague spreads in all directions due to adultery.
هر چه بر تو آید از ظلمات و غمآن ز بی باکی و گستاخیست هم
Whatever darkness and grief come upon you
Is also due to insolence and disrespect.
هر که بی باکی کند در راه دوستره زن مردان شد و نامرد اوست
Whoever behaves insolently in the path of the Friend,
Becomes a highwayman to spiritual men; he is a coward.
از ادب پرنور گشته ست این فلکوز ادب معصوم و پاک آمد ملک
Through courtesy, this heaven has become full of light;
And through courtesy, the angel became innocent and pure.
بد ز گستاخی کسوف آفتابشد عزازیلی ز جرات رد باب
The eclipse of the sun was due to insolence,
And Azazil was cast out from the portal due to boldness.
