Book One - Section 67 - The Crow's Taunt regarding the Hoopoe's Claim

Original content

English translation

When the crow heard this, it came out of envy and said to Solomon: He has spoken crookedly and badly. Such speech is not proper before the king, especially false, impossible self-boasting. If he truly had this sight continually, how did he not see the trap beneath a handful of dust? How did he come to be caught in that trap? How did he enter the cage, frustrated? Then Solomon said: O hoopoe, is it right that from you, at the very first cup, these dregs should arise? How can you put on drunkenness, you who have only drunk buttermilk? Do you boast before me and then lie?
