گفت پیغامبر ز سرمای بهار
تن مپوشانید یاران زینهار

زانک با جان شما آن می کند
کان بهاران با درختان می کند

لیک بگریزید از سرد خزان
کان کند کو کرد با باغ و رزان

راویان این را به ظاهر برده اند
هم بر آن صورت قناعت کرده اند

بی خبر بودند از جان آن گروه
کوه را دیده ندیده کان به کوه

آن خزان نزد خدا نفس و هواست
عقل و جان عین بهار است و بقاست

مر ترا عقلیست جزوی در نهان
کامل العقلی بجو اندر جهان

جزو تو از کل او کلی شود
عقل کل بر نفس چون غلی شود

پس به تأویل این بود کانفاس پاک
چون بهار است و حیات برگ و تاک

از حدیث اولیا نرم و درشت
تن مپوشان زانک دینت راست پشت

گرم گوید سرد گوید خوش بگیر
تا ز گرم و سرد بجهی وز سعیر

گرم و سردش نوبهار زندگیست
مایهٔ صدق و یقین و بندگیست

زان کزو بستان جان ها زنده است
زین جواهر بحر دل آگنده است

بر دل عاقل هزاران غم بود
گر ز باغ دل خلالی کم شود

English translation

The Prophet said: Beware, friends: do not cover your bodies from the cold of spring, for it does to your souls what spring does to trees. But flee from the cold of autumn, for it does what autumn did to the garden and vineyards. The transmitters took this outwardly and were content with that form. That group was unaware of the soul: they saw the mountain but did not see the mine within the mountain. That autumn, in God's sight, is the lower self and desire; intellect and soul are the very spring and abiding life. You have a partial intellect hidden within; seek one of perfect intellect in the world. Your part will become whole through his whole; the Universal Intellect will become like a shackle upon the lower self. So, by interpretation, the meaning is this: pure breaths are like spring and the life of leaf and vine. From the discourse of the saints, whether gentle or harsh, do not cover your body, for it is the straight support of your religion. If they speak warmly or coldly, receive it gladly, so that you may escape heat and cold and the Blaze. Their warmth and coldness is the new spring of life, the substance of truthfulness, certainty, and servitude. For through it the orchard of souls is alive; from these jewels the sea of the heart is filled. A thousand griefs would be upon the heart of the wise if even a twig were missing from the garden of the heart.
