دفتر اول - بخش ۴۷ - ترجیح نهادن شیر جهد را بر توکّل / Book One - Section 47 - The Lion's Preference for Exertion over Trust

متن و ترجمه / Text and Translation

گفت شیر آری ولی رب العبادنردبانی پیش پای ما نهاد
The lion said, "Yes, but the Lord of His servants
Has set a ladder before our feet.
پایه پایه رفت باید سوی بامهست جبری بودن اینجا طمع خام
Step by step, one must ascend to the roof;
To be a determinist here is a raw delusion.
پای داری چون کنی خود را تو لنگ ؟دست داری چون کنی پنهان تو چنگ ؟
You have feet, why do you make yourself lame?
You have hands, why do you hide your grip?
خواجه چون بیلی به دست بنده دادبی زبان معلوم شد او را مراد
When the master placed a spade in the servant's hand,
His intention became known without a word.
دست همچون بیل اشارت های اوستآخر اندیشی عبارت های اوست
The hand, like the spade, is His sign;
Thinking of the end is His expression.
چون اشارت هاش را بر جان نهیدر وفا ی آن اشارت جان دهی
When you take His signs to heart,
In fulfilling those signs, you will give your life.
پس اشارت های اسرار ت دهدبار بر دارد ز تو کارت دهد
Then He will give you the signs of the mysteries;
He will lift the burden from you and give you spiritual work.
حاملی محمول گرداند تو راقابلی مقبول گرداند تو را
You are a bearer, He will make you carried;
You are a receiver, He will make you accepted.
قابل امر ویی قایل شویوصل جویی بعد از آن واصل شوی
You are a receiver of His command, you will become a speaker;
You seek union, after that you will attain union.
سعی شکر نعمتش قدرت بودجبر تو انکار آن نعمت بود
Exertion is the gratitude for His blessing of power;
Your determinism is the denial of that blessing.
شکر قدرت قدرتت افزون کندجبر نعمت از کفت بیرون کند
Gratitude for power will increase your power;
Determinism will take the blessing out of your hand.
جبر تو خفتن بود در ره مخسپتا نبینی آن در و درگه مخسپ
Your determinism is sleeping on the road; do not sleep!
Until you see that door and threshold, do not sleep!
هان مخسپ ای کاهل بی اعتبارجز به زیر آن درخت میوه دار
Beware, do not sleep, O unreliable sluggard,
Except beneath that fruit-bearing tree,
تا که شاخ افشان کند هر لحظه بادبر سر خفته بریزد نقل و زاد
So that the wind may shake the branches every moment,
And pour dessert and provisions upon the sleeper's head.
جبر و خفتن در میان ره زنانمرغ بی هنگام کی یابد امان ؟
Determinism and sleeping amidst highwaymen!
When will the untimely bird find safety?
ور اشارت هاش را بینی زنیمرد پنداری و چون بینی زنی
And if you mock His signs,
You think you are a man, but when you look, you are a woman.
این قدر عقلی که داری گم شودسر که عقل از وی بپرد دم شود
This amount of intellect you have will be lost;
A head from which intellect flies becomes a tail.
زانک بی شکری بود شوم و شنارمی برد بی شکر را در قعر نار
Because ingratitude is ominous and disgraceful;
It drags the ingrate to the bottom of the fire.
گر توکل می کنی در کار کنکشت کن پس تکیه بر جبار کن
If you trust in God, do so in your work;
Sow the seed, then rely upon the Almighty."
