English translation

Have you not read the story of the people of Saba, or did you read it and see nothing but sound? The mountain itself is not aware of the sound; who has a path of awareness toward meaning? It makes a cry without ear or awareness; when you made yourself silent, it too became silent. God gave the people of Saba much ease: hundreds of thousands of palaces, halls, and gardens. Those evil-natured ones did not give thanks for that; in fidelity they were less than dogs. When a morsel of bread reaches a dog from a door, it girds itself at that door. It becomes watchman and guard of the door, although oppression and hardship come upon it. Still, its dwelling and rest remain at that door; it would count choosing another as unbelief/ingratitude. And if a strange dog comes day or night, those dogs immediately discipline it, saying: Go there, where your first dwelling is; the right of that bounty is a pledge on the heart. They bite it: Go back to your own place; do not neglect the right of that bounty any more. From the door of the heart and the people of the heart, the Water of Life, how much have you drunk, and your eyes were opened! Much nourishment of intoxication, ecstasy, and selflessness you struck upon your soul from the door of the people of the heart. Again you abandoned this door out of greed; you go around every shop out of greed. At the door of those benefactors with greasy pots you run for the sake of inherited scraps of tharid. Know that the richness is here, where the soul grows fat; the hopeless affair is made well here.
