آن بلال صدق در بانگ نماز
حی را هی همی خواند از نیاز

تا بگفتند ای پیمبر نیست راست
این خطا اکنون که آغاز بناست

ای نبی و ای رسول کردگار
یک مؤذن کو بود افصح بیار

عیب باشد اول دین و صلاح
لحن خواندن لفظ حی عل فلاح

خشم پیغمبر بجوشید و بگفت
یک دو رمزی از عنایات نهفت

کای خسان نزد خدا هی بلال
بهتر از صد حی و خی و قیل و قال

وا مشورانید تا من رازتان
وا نگویم آخر و آغازتان

گر نداری تو دم خوش در دعا
رو دعا می خواه ز اخوان صفا

English translation

That Bilal of truthfulness, in the call to prayer, was saying hayya as hay out of need. Then they said, “O Prophet, this is not correct, this error now, at the beginning of the foundation. O Prophet and Messenger of the Creator, bring a muezzin who is more eloquent. It is a defect, at the beginning of religion and righteousness, to mispronounce the phrase hayya ala al-falah.” The Prophet’s anger surged, and he spoke one or two hints of hidden favors: “O base ones, before God Bilal’s hay is better than a hundred hayyas and khays and talk and clamor. Do not stir me up, lest I reveal your secret, your end and your beginning. If you do not have a sweet breath in prayer, go ask prayer from the pure-hearted brethren.”
