آن یکی یاری پیمبر را بگفت
که منم در بیعها با غبن جفت

مکر هر کس کو فروشد یا خرد
همچو سحرست و ز راهم می‌برد

گفت در بیعی که ترسی از غرار
شرط کن سه روز خود را اختیار

که تانی هست از رحمان یقین
هست تعجیلت ز شیطان لعین

پیش سگ چون لقمه نان افکنی
بو کند آنگه خورد ای معتنی

او ببینی بو کند ما با خرد
هم ببوییمش به عقل منتقد

با تانی گشت موجود از خدا
تابه شش روز این زمین و چرخها

ورنه قادر بود کو کن فیکون
صد زمین و چرخ آوردی برون

آدمی را اندک اندک آن همام
تا چهل سالش کند مرد تمام

گرچه قادر بود کاندر یک نفس
از عدم پران کند پنجاه کس

عیسی قادر بود کو از یک دعا
بی توقف بر جهاند مرده را

خالق عیسی بنتواند که او
بی توقف مردم آرد تو بتو

این تانی از پی تعلیم تست
که طلب آهسته باید بی سکست

جو یکی کوچک که دایم می‌رود
نه نجس گردد نه گنده می‌شود

زین تانی زاید اقبال و سرور
این تانی بیضه دولت چون طیور

مرغ کی ماند به بیضه‌ای عنید
گرچه از بیضه همی آید پدید

باش تا اجزای تو چون بیضه‌ها
مرغها زایند اندر انتها

بیضهٔ مار ارچه ماند در شبه
بیضه گنجشک را دورست ره

دانهٔ آبی به دانه سیب نیز
گرچه ماند فرقها دان ای عزیز

برگها هم‌رنگ باشد در نظر
میوه‌ها هر یک بود نوعی دگر

برگهای جسمها ماننده‌اند
لیک هر جانی بریعی زنده‌اند

خلق در بازار یکسان می‌روند
آن یکی در ذوق و دیگر دردمند

همچنان در مرگ یکسان می‌رویم
نیم در خسران و نیمی خسرویم

English translation

A certain companion said to the Prophet: "In my transactions I am always paired with loss. The cunning of whoever sells or buys is like sorcery and leads me astray." He said: "In a transaction where you fear deception, stipulate three days' option for yourself, for deliberateness is certainly from the All-Merciful, and your haste is from the accursed Satan. When you throw a morsel of bread before a dog, it sniffs first, then eats, O attentive one — you see it sniff; we, with reason, should also smell with discerning intellect. With deliberateness, from God came into existence in six days this earth and the spheres; otherwise He was able — for with kun fa-yakūn He could have brought forth a hundred earths and spheres. That magnanimous One brings a human being forth gradually, over forty years making him a complete man, though He was able in a single breath to fly fifty persons out of non-existence. Jesus was able, with a single prayer, without delay to send the dead leaping up — could the Creator of Jesus not, without delay, bring forth people one upon another? This deliberateness is for your instruction: seeking must be gentle, without rupture, like a small stream that flows continually — it becomes neither impure nor foul-smelling. From this deliberateness fortune and joy are born; this deliberateness is the egg of prosperity, as with birds. How does a bird resemble an egg at all, though it emerges from the egg? Wait until your parts, like eggs, give birth to birds in the end. The egg of a snake, though it resembles in appearance, is far from the sparrow's egg. A water-seed resembles an apple-seed too — though they are alike, know their differences, O dear one. Leaves appear the same color in appearance, yet every fruit is of a different kind. The leaves of bodies resemble one another, but every soul lives by a different pasture. People walk alike through the marketplace — one in delight, another in pain; likewise in death we all walk alike, half in loss, and half are kings.
