یک زنی با طفل آورد آن جهود
پیش آن بت و آتش اندر شعله بود

طفل ازو بستد در آتش در فکند
زن بترسید و دل از ایمان بکند

خواست تا او سجده آرد پیش بت
بانگ زد آن طفل انی لم امت

اندر آ ای مادر اینجا من خوشم
گر چه در صورت میان آتشم

چشم‌بندست آتش از بهر حجیب
رحمتست این سر برآورده ز جیب

اندر آ مادر ببین برهان حق
تا ببینی عشرت خاصان حق

اندر آ و آب بین آتش‌مثال
از جهانی کآتش است آبش مثال

اندر آ اسرار ابراهیم بین
کو در آتش یافت سرو و یاسمین

مرگ می‌دیدم گه زادن ز تو
سخت خوفم بود افتادن ز تو

چون بزادم رستم از زندان تنگ
در جهان خوش‌هوای خوب‌رنگ

من جهان را چون رحم دیدم کنون
چون درین آتش بدیدم این سکون

اندرین آتش بدیدم عالمی
ذره ذره اندرو عیسی‌دمی

نک جهان نیست‌شکل هست‌ذات
و آن جهان هست شکل بی‌ثبات

اندر آ مادر بحق مادری
بین که این آذر ندارد آذری

اندر آ مادر که اقبال آمدست
اندر آ مادر مده دولت ز دست

قدرت آن سگ بدیدی اندر آ
تا ببینی قدرت و لطف خدا

من ز رحمت می‌کشانم پای تو
کز طرب خود نیستم پروای تو

اندر آ و دیگران را هم بخوان
کاندر آتش شاه بنهادست خوان

اندر آیید ای مسلمانان همه
غیر عذب دین عذابست آن همه

اندر آیید ای همه پروانه‌وار
اندرین بهره که دارد صد بهار

بانگ می‌زد درمیان آن گروه
پر همی شد جان خلقان از شکوه

خلق خود را بعد از آن بی‌خویشتن
می‌فکندند اندر آتش مرد و زن

بی‌موکل بی‌کشش از عشق دوست
زانک شیرین کردن هر تلخ ازوست

تا چنان شد کان عوانان خلق را
منع می‌کردند کآتش در میا

آن یهودی شد سیه‌رو و خجل
شد پشیمان زین سبب بیماردل

کاندر ایمان خلق عاشق‌تر شدند
در فنای جسم صادق‌تر شدند

مکر شیطان هم درو پیچید شکر
دیو هم خود را سیه‌رو دید شکر

آنچ می‌مالید در روی کسان
جمع شد در چهرهٔ آن ناکس آن

آنک می‌درید جامهٔ خلق چست
شد دریده آن او ایشان درست

English translation

That Jew brought a woman with a child before that idol, while the fire was aflame. He took the child from her and threw him into the fire; the woman was frightened and tore her heart away from faith. She was about to bow before the idol when the child cried, 'Indeed, I have not died. Come in, mother; I am happy here, though outwardly I am in the midst of fire. Fire is a blindfold for the veiled; this is mercy with its head raised from the collar. Come in, mother, and see the proof of the Real, so that you may see the delight of God's elect. Come in and see water in the likeness of fire, from a world whose fire is water-like. Come in and see Abraham's mysteries, for he found cypress and jasmine in fire. At my birth from you I took it for death; I was terribly afraid of falling away from you. When I was born I escaped from a narrow prison into a pleasant, fair-colored world. Now I have seen this world as a womb, since in this fire I have seen such repose. In this fire I saw a world where every particle had a Jesus-breath. Behold: this world is nothing in form but existent in essence, while that world is existent in form but without permanence. Come in, mother, by the right of motherhood; see that this fire has no fire in it. Come in, mother, for fortune has arrived; come in, mother, do not let fortune slip away. You have seen the power of that dog; come in, so that you may see God's power and gentleness. Out of mercy I am drawing your foot, for in my own rapture I would have no heed of you. Come in, and call the others too, for the King has set a table in the fire. Come in, all Muslims; apart from the sweet water of religion, all else is torment. Come in, all of you, like moths, into this share that has a hundred springs.' He cried out amid that crowd, and the souls of the people were filled with awe. After that the people, beside themselves, threw themselves into the fire, men and women, with no guard and no dragging, from love of the Friend, for making every bitter thing sweet belongs to Him. It came to such a point that those officers were forbidding the people, saying, 'Do not come into the fire.' That Jew became black-faced and ashamed, regretful and sick at heart, because the people became more ardent in faith and more sincere in bodily annihilation. Satan's trick, too, had sugar folded into it; the demon too saw itself black-faced, thanks be to God. What he had been rubbing on others' faces gathered on that base one's face. The one who was briskly tearing the people's garment had his own torn, while theirs were made whole.
