English translation

But the light of a wayfarer that has exceeded all bounds, His light has filled the wilderness and the plains. His state of being a witness is free from needing external testimony, And from affectations, self-sacrifice, and generosity. Since the light of that jewel has shone outward, It has gained freedom from these chains of proofs. Therefore, do not seek from him the witness of action and speech, For through him both worlds have blossomed like a rose. What is this testimony? It is the manifestation of the hidden, Whether through speech, action, or other means. For the goal is to manifest the secret of the essence; The permanent description is the essence, while these accidents are merely a passage. This trace of gold on the touchstone does not remain, But the gold remains, well-reputed and beyond doubt. This prayer, this struggle, and this fasting Do not remain either; but the soul remains, well-reputed. The soul performed such actions and spoke such words, And rubbed its essence against the touchstone of the Divine Command, Saying: 'My belief is true, and here is the witness,' But there can be error and doubt within witnesses. Know that witnesses require verification and purification, And their purification is the truthfulness on which you depend. Preserving the words is the duty of the verbal witness, While preserving the covenant is the duty of the active witness. If the witness of speech speaks crookedly, he is rejected; And if the witness of action walks crookedly, he is rejected. You need speech and action that are free of contradiction, So that acceptance may come to you immediately. 'Your striving is diverse'—you are in contradiction; By day you sew, and by night you tear apart. Who then would listen to a testimony full of contradiction? Unless He shows forbearance out of His own grace. Action and speech are the manifestation of the secret and the mind; Both reveal the hidden mystery. When your witness has been purified, it is accepted, Otherwise, it remains imprisoned in delay and hesitation. As long as you contend, they will contend, O stubborn one! 'So watch; they too are watching.'
