دفتر پنجم - بخش ۴۹ - در تفسیر قول مصطفی علیه‌السلام من جعل الهموم هما واحدا کفاه الله سائر همومه و من تفرقت به الهموم لا یبالی الله فی ای واد اهلکه / Book Five - Section 49 - On the Interpretation of the Saying of the Chosen One [Prophet Muhammad], Peace Be Upon Him: 'Whosoever makes all his cares into a single care, God will suffice him for all his other cares; and whosoever has his cares divided, God does not care in which valley He destroys him.'

هوش را توزیع کردی بر جهات
می نیرزد تره ای آن ترهات

آب هش را می کشد هر بیخ خار
آب هوشت چون رسد سوی ثمار

هین بزن آن شاخ بد را خو کنش
آب ده این شاخ خوش را نو کنش

هر دو سبزند این زمان آخر نگر
کین شود باطل از آن روید ثمر

آب باغ این را حلال آن را حرام
فرق را آخر ببینی والسلام

عدل چه بود آب ده اشجار را
ظلم چه بود آب دادن خار را

عدل وضع نعمتی در موضعش
نه بهر بیخی که باشد آبکش

ظلم چه بود وضع در ناموضعی
که نباشد جز بلا را منبعی

نعمت حق را به جان و عقل ده
نه به طبع پر زحیر پر گره

بار کن بیگار غم را بر تنت
بر دل و جان کم نه آن جان کندنت

بر سر عیسی نهاده تنگ بار
خر سکیزه می زند در مرغزار

سرمه را در گوش کردن شرط نیست
کار دل را جستن از تن شرط نیست

گر دلی رو ناز کن خواری مکش
ور تنی شکر منوش و زهر چش

زهر تن را نافعست و قند بد
تن همان بهتر که باشد بی مدد

هیزم دوزخ تنست و کم کنش
ور بروید هیزمی رو بر کنش

ورنه حمال حطب باشی حطب
در دو عالم هم چو جفت بولهب

از حطب بشناس شاخ سدره را
گرچه هر دو سبز باشند ای فتی

اصل آن شاخست هفتم آسمان
اصل این شاخست از نار و دخان

هست مانندا به صورت پیش حس
که غلط بینست چشم و کیش حس

هست آن پیدا به پیش چشم دل
جهد کن سوی دل آ جهد المقل

ور نداری پا بجنبان خویش را
تا ببینی هر کم و هر بیش را

English translation

You have distributed your intellect in all directions; Those nonsensical things are not worth a single leek. Every root of a thorn drinks the water of your intellect; How then shall the water of your intellect reach the fruits? Lo, cut down that evil branch, prune it; Water this good branch, make it fresh and new. Both are green at this moment, but look to the end: This one will become futile, and from that one fruit will grow. The water of the garden is lawful for this, and forbidden for that; In the end, you will see the difference, and that is all. What is justice? To give water to the trees. What is oppression? To water the thorns. Justice is putting a bounty in its proper place, Not at every root that merely sucks up water. What is oppression? Putting a thing in an improper place, Which is nothing but a source of calamity. Give God's bounty to the soul and the intellect, Not to the physical nature, full of groans and knots. Lay the forced labor of grief upon your body; Do not lay that agony of yours upon the heart and soul. You have placed a heavy load on the head of Jesus [the soul], While the donkey [the body] is capering in the meadow. Putting collyrium in the ear is not the rule; Seeking the work of the heart from the body is not the rule. If you are a heart, go and be cherished, do not suffer humiliation; And if you are a body, do not drink sugar, taste poison. Poison is beneficial to the body, and sugar is bad; The body is better off when it is left without aid. The body is the firewood of Hell, so diminish it; If any firewood grows, go and uproot it. Otherwise, you will be a carrier of firewood, In both worlds, like the wife of Abu Lahab. Distinguish the branch of the Lote-tree from firewood, Even though both are green, O youth! The origin of that branch is the seventh heaven; The origin of this branch is fire and smoke. They seem similar in form to the senses, For the eye and religion of the senses are error-perceiving. But that difference is manifest to the eye of the heart; Strive towards the heart, strive with the effort of the needy. And if you have no feet, stir yourself, So that you may see every deficiency and every abundance.
