گفت معشوقی به عاشق کای فتی
تو به غربت دیده ای بس شهرها

پس کدامین شهر ز آنها خوشترست
گفت آن شهری که در وی دلبرست

هرکجا باشد شه ما را بساط
هست صحرا گر بود سم الخیاط

هر کجا که یوسفی باشد چو ماه
جنتست ارچه که باشد قعر چاه

English translation

A beloved said to the lover: "O youth, you have seen many cities in your wandering abroad— so which of those cities is the most pleasant?" He said: "That city in which the heart-stealer dwells.

Wherever our king spreads his carpet, it is an open plain even if it were the eye of a needle. Wherever a Joseph, radiant as the moon, may be, it is paradise even if it be the bottom of a well."
