جامه خواب آورد و گسترد آن عجوز
گفت امکان نه و باطن پر ز سوز

گر بگویم متهم دارد مرا
ور نگویم جد شود این ماجرا

فال بد رنجور گرداند همی
آدمی را که نبودستش غمی

قول پیغامبر قبوله یفرض
ان تمارضتم لدینا تمرضوا

گر بگویم او خیالی بر زند
فعل دارد زن که خلوت می کند

مر مرا از خانه بیرون می کند
بهر فسقی فعل و افسون می کند

جامه خوابش کرد و استاد اوفتاد
آه آه و ناله از وی می بزاد

کودکان آنجا نشستند و نهان
درس می خواندند با صد اندهان

کین همه کردیم و ما زندانییم
بد بنایی بود ما بد بانییم

English translation

The old woman brought the bedding and spread it, Saying: "I cannot speak, and my heart is full of burning.

If I speak, he will accuse me; If I do not speak, this matter will grow grave."

An ill omen makes sick The person who had no ailment.

The Prophet's saying — its acceptance is required: "If you feign illness before Us, you shall truly fall ill."

"If I speak, he will conjure a fantasy: 'A woman has affairs she keeps private;

She is driving me out of the house — For some debauchery she performs deeds and enchantments.'"

She made his bedding ready and the master lay down; Ah, ah — lamentations poured out of him.

The children sat there and in silence Were reciting their lessons with a hundred sorrows,

Saying: "We did all this and yet we are prisoners — The foundation was ill-laid; we are poor custodians."
