یادم آمد آن حکایت کان فقیر
روز و شب می کرد افغان و نفیر

وز خدا می خواست روزی حلال
بی شکار و رنج و کسب و انتقال

پیش ازین گفتیم بعضی حال او
لیک تعویق آمد و شد پنج تو

هم بگوییمش کجا خواهد گریخت
چون ز ابر فضل حق حکمت بریخت

صاحب گاوش بدید و گفت هین
ای به ظلمت گاو من گشته رهین

هین چرا کشتی بگو گاو مرا
ابله طرار انصاف اندر آ

گفت من روزی ز حق می خواستم
قبله را از لابه می آراستم

آن دعای کهنه ام شد مستجاب
روزی من بود کشتم نک جواب

او ز خشم آمد گریبانش گرفت
چند مشتی زد به رویش ناشکفت

English translation

That tale came back to my mind: that poor man who, day and night, kept crying out and lamenting, and was asking God for lawful sustenance without hunting, toil, earning, or moving from place to place. We told some of his state before, but delay intervened and it became entangled. We shall tell it too; where could it flee, when wisdom has poured down from the cloud of God's bounty? The owner of the cow saw him and said, 'Look here, you by whose injustice my cow has been held captive. Come now, tell me: why did you slaughter my cow, foolish cheat? Come, be fair.' He said, 'I was seeking sustenance from God; I was adorning the qibla with my supplication. My old prayer has been answered: it was my sustenance, so I slaughtered it. Now, here is the answer.' In anger he seized him by the collar and struck several blows with his fists on his unblossomed face.
