Book Three - Section 196 - The Reprovers Repeating Their Advice to That Guest of That Guest-Killing Mosque

Original content

English translation

The Prophet said: "Verily in eloquence there is sorcery" — that fine champion spoke truly.

Heed! Do not act hastily, go, O father of generosity, do not make the mosque and us suspect by this.

For an enemy will speak out of enmity, a vile one will tomorrow kindle a fire against us —

saying that a tyrant wronged him, under the mosque's pretext, when he had been safe.

So that he may lay the pretext of murder upon the mosque — since the mosque is ill-reputed, he will strive toward that.

Do not cast accusation upon us, O hard-souled one, for we are not safe from the scheming of enemies.

Heed! Go away, do not act rashly, do not cook up plots, for Saturn cannot be measured by the gaz.

Many like you have been deluded by fortune, and plucked out their own beards, bit by bit, piece by piece.

Heed! Go away, cut short this chatter and dispute, do not cast yourself and us into calamity.
