دفتر سوم - بخش ۱۵۹ - خجل گشتن خروس پیش سگ به سبب دروغ شدن در آن سه وعده / Book Three - Section 159 - The Rooster Becoming Ashamed Before the Dog Because of the Falsity of Those Three Promises

متن و ترجمه / Text and Translation

چند چند آخر دروغ و مکر توخود نپرد جز دروغ از وکر تو
How long, how long — in the end, your lies and deceit;
Nothing flies from your nest but lies.
گفت حاشا از من و از جنس منکه بگردیم از دروغی ممتحن
He said: Far be it from me and from my kind
That we should be tried and found guilty of a lie.
ما خروسان چون مؤذن راست گویهم رقیب آفتاب و وقت جوی
We roosters are like the truthful muezzin,
Watchful of the sun and seeking the right time.
پاسبان آفتابیم از درونگر کنی بالای ما طشتی نگون
We are guardians of the sun from within —
Even if you were to overturn a basin above us.
پاسبان آفتابند اولیادر بشر واقف ز اسرار خدا
The saints are guardians of the sun —
Among humankind, privy to the secrets of God.
اصل ما را حق پی بانگ نمازداد هدیه آدمی را در جهاز
God gave our origin as a gift to humanity
As provisions for the call to prayer.
گر بناهنگام سهوی مان روددر اذان آن مقتل ما می شود
If through inadvertence our call goes at the wrong time,
That adhān becomes our death.
گفت ناهنگام حی عل فلاحخون ما را می کند خوار و مباح
Calling "Ḥayya 'alā al-falāḥ" at the wrong time
Makes our blood cheap and permissible to shed.
آنک معصوم آمد و پاک از غلطآن خروس جان وحی آمد فقط
That which came sinless and pure from error —
That is the rooster of the soul; it came through waḥy alone.
آن غلامش مرد پیش مشتریشد زیان مشتری آن یکسری
His slave died before reaching the buyer —
That loss fell entirely upon the buyer.
او گریزانید مالش را ولیکخون خود را ریخت اندر یاب نیک
He caused his property to flee, yet
Know well: he poured out his own blood.
یک زیان دفع زیانها می شدیجسم و مال ماست جانها را فدی
One loss would ward off many losses —
Our body and wealth are sacrificed for our souls.
پیش شاهان در سیاست گستریمی دهی تو مال و سر را می خری
Before kings in the dispensing of punishment,
You give your wealth and buy back your head.
اعجمی چون گشته ای اندر قضامی گریزانی ز داور مال را
Having become like one ignorant of divine decree,
You cause your wealth to flee from the Judge.
