دفتر سوم - بخش ۱۹۱ - ملامت کردن اهل مسجد مهمان عاشق را از شب خفتن در آنجا و تهدید کردن مرورا / Book Three — Section 191 — The people of the mosque blame the enamored guest for sleeping there at night and threaten him

Original content

English translation

The people said to him: "Beware, do not sleep here, lest the soul-taker pound you down like dregs. For you are a stranger and know not our condition — in this place, whoever slept met with ruin. This is no coincidence; we have seen it many times, and all the people of sound judgment have witnessed it too. Whoever made that mosque his lodging for a night, at midnight death by poison came to him. From one among us to a hundred we have seen this — not heard it in imitation from another. The Prophet said: 'Al-dīn al-naṣīḥa' — Religion is counsel; that naṣīḥat in language stands opposite to ghulūl. This naṣīḥat is sincerity within friendship; in ghulūl there is treachery and the skin of a dog. Without treachery, out of love we offer you this counsel — do not turn away from reason and justice."
