English translation

Book Four — Section 100 — Explanation of This Hadith: "Speak to People According to the Measure of Their Intellects, Not According to the Measure of Your Intellects, Lest They Deny God and His Messenger"

Since I have dealings with a child, I must open the tongue of children.

"Go to your book and I will buy you a bird, Or I will bring raisins, walnuts, and pistachios."

You know nothing but the youth of the body — by the cock! — Take hold of this youth, O barley-ass!

No wrinkle shall fall upon your face; That auspicious youth shall remain fresh.

Neither shall the misery of old age come upon you, Nor shall your cypress-stature become bent double.

Nor shall the vigor of youth diminish from you, Nor gaps or pain in the teeth.

Nor any lack in lust, defloration, and marital coitus, That women would grow weary of your weakness.

Such splendor of youth shall open to you As that glad tiding opened the door for 'Ukāsha.
