هر صباحی چون سلیمان آمدی
خاضع اندر مسجد اقصی شدی

نوگیاهی رسته دیدی اندرو
پس بگفتی نام و نفع خود بگو

تو چه دارویی چیی نامت چیست
تو زیان کی و نفعت بر کیست

پس بگفتی هر گیاهی فعل و نام
که من آن را جانم و این را حمام

من مرین را زهرم و او را شکر
نام من اینست بر لوح از قدر

پس طبیبان از سلیمان زان گیا
عالم و دانا شدندی مقتدی

تا کتبهای طبیبی ساختند
جسم را از رنج می‌پرداختند

این نجوم و طب وحی انبیاست
عقل و حس را سوی بی‌سو ره کجاست

عقل جزوی عقل استخراج نیست
جز پذیرای فن و محتاج نیست

قابل تعلیم و فهمست این خرد
لیک صاحب وحی تعلیمش دهد

جمله حرفتها یقین از وحی بود
اول او لیک عقل آن را فزود

هیچ حرفت را ببین کین عقل ما
تاند او آموختن بی‌اوستا

گرچه اندر مکر موی‌اشکاف بد
هیچ پیشه رام بی‌استا نشد

دانش پیشه ازین عقل ار بدی
پیشهٔ بی‌اوستا حاصل شدی

English translation

Every morning when Solomon came, He entered the Aqsa Mosque in humility. He would see a fresh herb grown within it, Then would say: "Tell me your name and your use. What medicine are you? What are you? What is your name? To whom are you harm, and to whom does your benefit fall?" Then each herb would speak its function and its name: "I am life to that one, and a bath to this one. I am poison to this one, and to that one sugar. This is my name, inscribed on the Tablet of Destiny." Then physicians, from Solomon and through those herbs, Became learned and wise, taking him as their guide, Until they compiled books of medicine And freed the body from suffering. This astronomy and medicine are the revelation of the prophets; For reason and sense, where is the way toward the Boundless? The partial intellect is not an extracting intellect; It is nothing but a receiver of craft, and in need. This reason is capable of instruction and understanding, But it is the one who holds revelation who instructs it. All crafts were certainly from revelation at first, Though reason afterward added to them. Look at any craft — can this reason of ours Learn it without a master? Though it was hair-splittingly subtle in cunning, No profession was ever tamed without a teacher. If the knowledge of a profession arose from this reason alone, A craft without a master would have been attained.
