A Word from Rabia

Original content

English translation

Someone asked her: 'O accepted one, What do you say about the companions of the Messenger?' She said: 'I am so overwhelmed by the Truth, How can I give news of the companions? If I had not lost my soul and heart in the Truth, Would I care for people for even a single breath? Was it not me who, in the place of prostration, Had a thorn pierce my eye along the path? My blood flowed upon the ground from my eye, Yet I was completely unaware of my own blood. One who suffers such pain, How could they have the heart for the affairs of men and women? Since I have not been self-aware since I existed, How can I judge and know another by comparison? In this path, you are neither God nor the Messenger, So keep your hands off this rejection and acceptance. You are a handful of dust; become dust in this path, And cleanse yourself from disassociation and association. Since you are a handful of dust, speak of dust; Deem everyone pure, and speak of them with purity.'
