The Tale of Bilal Being Beaten
Original content
English translation
Bilal once received in a certain place one day, A hundred sticks and lashes upon his slender body. Blood flowed from him from the countless strikes, Yet he still said 'One', he said 'One'. If a thorn should suddenly pierce your foot, No love or hatred for anyone remains in your path. He who is afflicted by a thorn in his hand, Taking action among such a people is a mistake for him. Since they were like that and you are like this, How long will you remain bewildered like this? From your weddings, idolaters have escaped, And from your tongue, the Companions are weary. In meddling, you make the registers black; You would win the prize if you guarded your tongue.
