The Opinion of a Madman Concerning the Two Worlds

Original content

English translation

A man asked a madman, "What are these two worlds with so many illusions?" He said, "Both these worlds, the high and the low, Are a drop of water, neither non-existent nor existent. From the beginning, a drop of water became manifest; It is but a drop of water with so many patterns. Every pattern that rests upon the surface of water, Even if it were all made of iron, will be destroyed. There is nothing harder than iron, Yet observe that it too is built upon water. Whatever has its foundation upon water, Even if it were all fire, it would be a dream. No one has ever seen water be permanent; How can a foundation upon water be secure?"
