طوطی آمد با دهان پر شکر
در لباس فستقی با طوق زر

پشه گشته باشه ای از فر او
هر کجا سرسبزیی از پر او

در سخن گفتن شکرریز آمده
در شکر خوردن پگه خیز آمده

گفت: هر سنگین دل و هر هیچ کس
چون منی را آهنین سازد قفس

من در این زندان آهن مانده باز
زآرزوی آب خضرم در گداز

خضر مرغانم، از آنم سبزپوش
بوک دانم کردن آب خضر نوش

من نیارم در بر سیمرغ تاب
بس بود از چشمهٔ خضرم یک آب

سر نهم در راه چون سوداییی
می روم هر جای چون هر جاییی

چون نشان یابم ز آب زندگی
سلطنت دستم دهد در بندگی

هدهدش گفت: ای ز دولت بی نشان!
مرد نبود هرک نبود جان فشان

جان ز بهر این به کار آید تو را
تا دمی در خورد یار آید تو را

آب حیوان خواهی و جان دوستی
رو که تو مغزی، نداری پوستی

جان چه خواهی کرد؟ بر جانان فشان
در ره جانان چو مردان جان فشان

English translation

The parrot came with a mouth full of sugar, In a pistachio-colored garment with a golden collar. A gnat became a falcon from his splendor, Everywhere there was greenery, it was from his feathers. In speaking, he was a scatterer of sugar, In eating sugar, he was an early riser. He said, "Every hard-hearted person and every nobody Makes an iron cage for someone like me. I am left confined in this iron prison, Melting from the desire for the water of Khizr. I am the Khizr of birds, that is why I am dressed in green, Perhaps I may be able to drink the water of Khizr. I cannot endure being in the presence of the Simorgh, A single drop from the spring of Khizr is enough for me. I will set my head on the path like someone madly in love, I will roam everywhere like a wanderer. When I find a trace of the water of life, Sovereignty will be given to my hand in servitude." The hoopoe said to him, "O you with no sign of true fortune! He is not a man who does not sacrifice his soul. Your soul is useful to you for this reason, That for a moment it may be worthy of the Beloved. You desire the water of life and are a lover of your soul? Go, for you have no kernel, you are but a shell. What will you do with your soul? Sacrifice it for the Beloved! On the path of the Beloved, sacrifice your soul like true men."
