The Conversation of the Insightful Man with the Sea

Original content

English translation

An insightful man went down to the sea, He said: 'O sea! Why are you wearing blue? Why have you put on the garment of mourning? There is no fire, why are you boiling?' The sea gave answer to that good-hearted one: 'From the separation of the Friend, I have anxiety. Since out of unmanliness I am not His man, I have dyed my garment indigo out of His pain. I sit bewildered with dry lips, From the fire of love, my water has started to boil. If I find a drop from His Kawthar, I will become eternally alive at His door. Otherwise, hundreds of thousands of dry-lipped ones like me Will die in His path day and night.'
