خردنامه اسکندری / Book of Alexandrian Wisdom (Kheradnama-ye Eskandari)

خردنامه اسکندری / Book of Alexandrian Wisdom

The Book of Alexandrian Wisdom (Kheradnama-ye Eskandari) is the seventh and final masnavi within Jami's Haft Awrang. It is a philosophical and didactic narrative poem built around the figure of Alexander (Sikandar), gathering the counsel of Greek sages and sustained meditations on kingship, learning, and mortality.

Toward its close the work presents a connected sequence of laments (ندبه) in which sages speak over Alexander's coffin about the vanity of worldly power and the inevitability of death. The individual lament sections — the laments of the first, second, third, fourth, fifth, and later sages — form part of this masnavi and belong within it rather than hanging directly beneath the whole Haft Awrang collection.
