خردنامه اسکندری / Kheradnama-ye Eskandari (The Alexandrian Book of Wisdom)

خردنامه اسکندری / The Alexandrian Book of Wisdom

خردنامه اسکندری is the seventh and final masnavi within Jami's Haft Awrang. It portrays Alexander the Great (Iskandar) as a philosopher-king and seeker of wisdom, interweaving his conquests with the counsel of sages such as Aristotle and Plato.

The work closes with an elegiac sequence in which a series of Greek sages, one after another, deliver laments (ندبه) over Alexander's coffin. Each numbered sage reflects on the vanity of worldly power, the futility of hoarded treasure, and the inevitability of death. The individual 'Lament of the Nth Sage' sections all belong to this concluding sequence of خردنامه اسکندری, rather than to the Haft Awrang collection as a whole.
