خردنامه اسکندری / Kheradnama-ye Eskandari (The Book of Alexandrian Wisdom)

خردنامه اسکندری / The Book of Alexandrian Wisdom

Kheradnama-ye Eskandari is the seventh and final masnavi of Jami's Haft Awrang. This didactic narrative poem recounts the life and, above all, the philosophical wisdom associated with Alexander the Great: his tutelage under Aristotle, his exchanges of counsel and letters with the Greek sages, his exemplary maxims, his death, and the philosophers' consolation of his grieving mother.

The individual بخش (sections) — such as the tale of carrying Alexander's coffin to Alexandria, the successive sages offering condolences, his mother's thanks and apology to them, and the exchange of letters with Aristotle — are the constituent parts of this single masnavi. They share it as their immediate literary container, which in turn belongs to the larger Haft Awrang collection.
