خردنامه اسکندری / Kheradnameh-ye Eskandari (The Alexandrian Book of Wisdom)

Kheradnameh-ye Eskandari

خردنامه اسکندری (The Alexandrian Book of Wisdom) is the seventh and final masnavi of Jami's Haft Awrang. Written in the tradition of Nizami's Iskandarnameh, it recounts the campaigns, sayings, and philosophical wisdom of Alexander the Great (Sekandar), culminating in his death and the successive laments and words of condolence spoken by the assembled sages (حکیمان) around his coffin.

The individual بخش (sections) that make up this frame — such as the laments (ندبه) and the condolences (تعزیت) offered by the first, second, third and later sages — belong structurally under this work, not directly under the whole Haft Awrang collection. Understanding that these sections form one continuous masnavi about Alexander is a prerequisite for reading any single section in its proper narrative context.
