خردنامه اسکندری / Khiradnama-ye Iskandari (The Book of Alexandrian Wisdom)

خردنامه اسکندری (Khiradnama-ye Iskandari, the 'Book of Alexandrian Wisdom') is the seventh and final masnavi within Jami's collection Haft Awrang. Following the tradition of Nizami's Iskandarnama, it recasts Alexander (Iskandar) as a philosopher-king and a vehicle for ethical and sapiential teaching, drawing on the counsel of Greek sages. Its concluding movement is a series of laments (ندبه) delivered by the sages over Alexander's coffin, in which each philosopher reflects on the transience of worldly power, learning, wealth, and life itself. The individual laments (for example, Sections 57 through 66, the laments of the first through tenth sages) are the constituent sections (بخش) of this masnavi and belong under it rather than directly under the whole Haft Awrang collection.
