خردنامه اسکندری / Khiradnama-yi Iskandari (The Book of Wisdom of Alexander)

Khiradnama-yi Iskandari (The Book of Wisdom of Alexander)

خردنامه اسکندری is the seventh and final mathnavi of Jami's Haft Awrang (path 7-7 in the collection). It recasts the story of Alexander (Sekandar) as a philosophical and ethical poem: ancient sages counsel the king on justice, mortality, and the vanity of hoarded treasure, and near the end each sage delivers a lament over the dead conqueror. The book gathers its opening supplications, discourses, tales, and the sages' laments before Jami seals the whole work in a concluding section. It is the shared container for the sections drawn from 7-7 (for example the Lament of the Second Sage and the Lament of the Fifth Sage, and this sealing/conclusion section), which otherwise attach directly to the whole collection.
