لیلی و مجنون / Layla and Majnun (Jami)

Leyli o Majnun (Layla and Majnun)

The sixth masnavi (narrative poem) of Jami's Haft Awrang, completed in the late 15th century. It retells the classic tale of the doomed lovers Qays — called Majnun, the madman, for his all-consuming love — and Layla, reworking the older Arabic legend through a Persian Sufi lens in which earthly love mirrors the soul's longing for the Divine.

Like the other works in Haft Awrang, this masnavi opens with a devotional prelude (its Section 1 - The Beginning, in praise of God) before the narrative unfolds. As an individual work it is the structural container that links the Haft Awrang collection to its constituent sections (بخش).
