لیلی و مجنون / Layla and Majnun (Masnavi from Jami's Haft Awrang)

Layla and Majnun (لیلی و مجنون)

Leyli o Majnun is one of the seven narrative masnavis that together make up Jami's Haft Awrang. It retells the classic Arabic-Persian tragic romance of Qays (called Majnun, the madman) and Layla: how Qays falls in love with Layla, how their families and tribe force them apart, and how Qays descends into wandering madness in the wilderness while their love endures.

The numbered episodes titled بخش (Section) — for example Section 25, in which Layla's father goes to the Caliph's court to seek justice against Majnun and fulfill his earlier oath — are consecutive scenes of this single poem. Because they are parts of one continuous narrative, they belong under this work node rather than being attached directly to the whole Haft Awrang collection, mirroring the structural path author → collection → work → section.
