لیلی و مجنون / Layla and Majnun (masnavi within Haft Awrang)

Layla and Majnun

لیلی و مجنون is the sixth masnavi of Jami's Haft Awrang, a Persian retelling of the classic Arabian romance of Qays (called Majnun, 'the possessed') and Layla. The narrative moves from Qays's first inflaming passion, through the lovers' separation, his growing madness, his withdrawal from human society into the company of wild beasts, and finally the deaths of the two lovers. The poem is divided into numbered sections (بخش), each narrating a successive episode of the romance.

This node is the book-level container for that single work: it sits between the whole Haft Awrang collection and the individual numbered sections, so that each section is grouped under the poem it belongs to rather than attached directly to the seven-part collection.
