لیلی و مجنون / Layli va Majnun (Jami's Haft Awrang)

لیلی و مجنون (Layli va Majnun) is the sixth of the seven masnavi poems that make up Jami's Haft Awrang (Seven Thrones). Following the narrative tradition established by Nizami, it retells the Arabic love story of Qays, called Majnun, and Layli, tracing Majnun's descent from reason into ecstatic, world-renouncing love. Its individual narrative sections — such as the episode in which the poet Kuthayyir describes Majnun before the Caliph, the Caliph summoning Majnun, and Kuthayyir reaching the gazelle-filled meadow — belong to this single poem rather than directly to the whole seven-poem collection.
