Section 144 - A Tale by Way of Allegory

Original content

English translation

An Arab who was an inhabitant of the desert Decided to travel to the city of Ray. He saw in front of a cook's small shop A greasy intestine, and boldly cried out In wonder: 'O Persian, what is this? Take coins and give me this.' The cook took the coin from him and put it away, And handed him a span-long piece of it. The Arab put it under his arm and went on, Wandering around the market, the city, and the streets. Suddenly, in the middle of the city and its clamor, The greasy intestine fell down from under his arm. Since the poor man did not know its name, To search for it from the people of the city, With his armpit empty of it and his pocket empty of a penny, He placed a piece of dry dung on his palm and cried out: 'O Muslims of the city of Ray, Have you found anything like this?'
