یک منک گوشت داد خواجه به زن
کش بپز زود بهر طعمه من

گوشت را زن کباب کرد و بخورد
خواجه چون گشت خواست عذر آورد

که هنوز آن ز دیگ بیرون بود
که کمین کرد گربه و بربود

خواجه سنجید گربه را فی الحال
نامد افزون ز گوشت یک مثقال

زد به صد غصه دست بر زانو
کرد با زن عتاب کای بانو

گربه بی شک چو گوشت یک من بود
گوشت یک من دگر بر آن افزود

نیست این نکته پیش من روشن
که تواند شدن دو من یک من

اگر این گربه است گوشت کجاست
وگر این گوشت شکل گربه چراست

English translation

A master gave a small 'man' of meat to his wife, Asking her to cook it quickly for his food. The wife made kebab of the meat and ate it; When the master returned, she sought to make an excuse, Saying, 'While it was still out of the pot, A cat lay in ambush and snatched it away.' The master weighed the cat immediately; Its weight did not exceed the meat by even a single dram. With a hundred sorrows, he struck his knees, And reproached his wife, saying, 'O lady, The cat was undoubtedly one 'man' in weight, just like the meat, And another 'man' of meat was added to it. This point is not clear to me, How can two 'man's become one 'man'? If this is the cat, where is the meat, And if this is the meat, why does it have the shape of a cat?'
