قطره ای از تموج دریا
در زمستان فتاد بر صحرا

خویش را منجمد ز شدت برد
هستی مستقل توهم کرد

لیکن از هر کسی و هر جایی
می شنید اینکه هست دریای

کرد از موج و شبنم و باران
بر وجودش اقامت برهان

گرچه از روی عقل برهان گفت
بود صد شک درون جانش نهفت

آری از سنگلاخ وهم و خیال
کس نرسته به پای استدلال

فلسفی عمرها نهاد اساس
دانش خویش را ز فکر و قیاس

به کف از بهر وزن کردن آن
از قوانین منطقش میزان

تا شناسد صحیح را ز سقیم
باز داند ولود را ز عقیم

کرد بسیاری از علوم و فنون
حاصل خویشتن به این قانون

ظن او آنکه از گمان رسته ست
همه در بار خود یقین بسته ست

لیکن آندم که بار بگشاید
جز متاع گمان برون ناید

English translation

A drop from the billowing of the sea Fell upon the wilderness in winter. It froze solid due to the intense cold, And imagined for itself an independent existence. Yet from everyone and from everywhere, It kept hearing that there is an ocean. Through waves, dew, and rain, It established proofs for its existence. Although it articulated proofs from the standpoint of reason, A hundred doubts were hidden within its soul. Indeed, from the rocky ground of delusion and fantasy, No one has ever escaped on the feet of rational demonstration. The philosopher spent lifetimes laying the foundation Of his knowledge upon thought and analogy, Holding in his hand, in order to weigh it, A scale made of the laws of logic, To distinguish the sound from the flawed, And to tell the productive from the sterile. He acquired many sciences and arts As his own achievement through this method. His belief was that he had escaped from conjecture, And had packed nothing but certainty in his baggage. Yet at that moment when he unpacks, Nothing but the merchandise of conjecture emerges.
