ومنهم: بیان مریدان و برهان محققان ابوعلی الحسن بن علی بن محمد الدقاق، رضی الله عنه
امام فن خود بود و اندر زمانه بی نظیر. بیانی صریح و زبانی فصیح داشت اندر کشف راه خداوند، تعالی. و مشایخ بسیار را دیده بود و با ایشان صحبت داشته. مرید نصر آبادی بود. تذکیر گفتی.

از وی می آید که گفت: «من أنس بغیره ضعف فی حاله، و من نطق من غیره کذب فی مقاله.» هرکه را بدون حق انس بود اندر حال خود ضعیف باشد و آن که جز از وی گوید اندر مقالات خود کاذب باشد؛ از آن چه انس با غیر از غایت قلت معرفت باشد و انس با وی از غیر وحشت بود و مستوحش از غیر، ناطق نبود از غیر.
و از پیری شنیدم که: روزی به مجلس وی اندر آمدم به نیت آن که بپرسم از حال متوکلان. وی دستاری نیکوی طبری در سر داشت. دلم بدان میل کرد. گفتم: «ایها الشیخ، توکل چه باشد؟» گفت: «آن که طمع از دستار مردمان کوتاه کنی.» این بگفت و دستار در من انداخت. رضی الله عنه.

English translation

And among them: the exposition of the disciples and the proof of the verifiers, Abu Ali al-Hasan ibn Ali ibn Muhammad al-Daqqaq, may Allah be pleased with him.

He was the imam of his own discipline and without peer in his age. He had a plain, clear expression and an eloquent tongue in unveiling the path to God, the Exalted. He had seen many masters and kept company with them. He was a disciple of Nasrabadi. He used to give admonitory discourses (tadhkir).

It is related from him that he said: 'Whoever finds intimacy in other than Him is weak in his state, and whoever speaks from other than Him lies in his speech.' Whoever has intimacy with other than the Truth is weak in his own state, and whoever speaks of other than Him is a liar in his sayings; for intimacy with the other arises from the utmost scarcity of gnosis, while intimacy with Him is estrangement from the other, and one estranged from the other does not speak of the other.

And I heard from an elder that: one day I entered his assembly intending to ask about the state of those who trust in God (mutawakkilan). He had a fine Tabari turban on his head. My heart inclined toward it. I said: 'O Shaykh, what is trust in God (tawakkul)?' He said: 'That you cut off your covetousness for the turbans of people.' He said this and threw the turban to me. May Allah be pleased with him.
