و منهم: سرای پردهٔ اسرار و تمکین، و اساس اهل یقین ابوحمزة البغدادی البزاز، رضی الله عنه از کبرای متکلمان مشایخ بود و مرید حارث محاسبی بود و با سری صحبت داشته بود و از اقران نوری و خیر النساج بود، و با محتشمان مشایخ صحبت کرده بود. اندر مسجد رصافهٔ بغداد عظت کردی. عالم بود به تفسیر و قرائت. روایاتش عالی بود اندر احادیث پیغمبر، علیه السلام و وی آن بود که اندر وقعت نوری و بلای وی با وی بوده بود، که خداوند تعالی جمله را خلاص داد. حکایت آن در شرح مذهب نوری بیارم، ان شاء الله عز و جل. از وی می آید که گفت: «إذا سلمت منک نفسک فقد أدیت حقها، و إذا سلم منک الخلق قضیت حقوقهم.» چون تن تو از تو سلامت یافت حق وی بگزاردی، و چون خلق از تو سلامت یافتند حق های ایشان بگزاردی؛ یعنی حقوق دو است: یکی حق نفس تو بر تو، و یکی حق خلق بر تو. چون نفس را از معصیت منع کردی و طریقت سلامت آن جهانی وی طلب کردی، حق وی گزارده باشی، و چون خلق را از بد خود ایمن گردانیدی و بد ایشان نخواهی حق ایشان گزارده باشی. بکوش تا تو را و خلق را از تو بد نیفتد، آنگاه به حق گزاردن حق مشغول شو. والله اعلم.

English translation

And among them: the pavilion of the secrets of mystical stability, and the foundation of the people of certainty, Abu Hamza al-Baghdadi al-Bazzaz, may Allah be pleased with him.

He was among the great theologians of the shaykhs, a disciple of Harith al-Muhasibi, and had kept the company of Sari; he was a peer of Nuri and Khayr al-Nassaj, and had associated with the eminent shaykhs. He used to give admonitions in the mosque of Rusafa in Baghdad. He was learned in Qur'anic exegesis and recitation. His transmissions of the hadiths of the Prophet, peace be upon him, were of high standing. He was the one who was present with Nuri during Nuri's ordeal and tribulation, when God Most High delivered them all. I shall relate that account in the exposition of Nuri's way, God willing, mighty and glorious is He.

It is transmitted from him that he said: 'When your own self is safe from you, you have discharged its due; and when the creatures are safe from you, you have fulfilled their dues.' When your body is kept safe from you, you have rendered its right; and when the creatures are kept safe from you, you have rendered their rights. That is to say, dues are of two kinds: one is the right of your own self over you, and the other is the right of the creatures over you. When you restrain the self from disobedience and seek for it the path of otherworldly safety, you have rendered its right; and when you make the creatures secure from your evil and desire no harm for them, you have rendered their right. Strive so that no evil befalls you or the creatures from you, and then occupy yourself with rendering the dues. And God knows best.
