English translation

O moon-faced one of the Meccan dawn, Medinan cradle, Yemeni veil. The fold of your veil is lightning-igniting, The flash of your face's lightning is veil-burning. The Night of Power is but a dark strand of your hair, The sent-down revelation is speech from your lips. Your forelock is the profit of all passions, Ta-Ha is a selection of its letters. Two bows' length is manifest from your eyebrows, The shape of Ha-Mim is the curl of your tress. Those who waged war against you Struck the casket of your rubies with stones. They wounded the pearly cup of your lips, And broke the goblet of their own fortune. A breach was made by those schemers In the row of the pure-natured pearls. The string of your teeth became hidden in blood, The row of fresh pearls became like coral. No one has ever shown such hard-heartedness To a pure pearl of such colorfulness. You are a holy palm-tree, and your fresh lips are ripe dates, The ripe dates wounded by the stones of the base ones. That is to say, from the ears of the base, disgrace is upon you, O Master, henceforth the lip of the stone holds shame. It is as if the money-changer of the Kingdom and the Angels Tested your gold on the touchstone of that rock, In order to display to every fraudulent dealer The ornament of your forbearance as pure of assay. Inevitably, your casket from the blow of the stone Sent forth the melody of 'Guide my people!' Indeed, your forbearance was a mountain of grandeur, How can a mountain collapse from a single stone? If an echo comes from this mountain, Every beggar will attain prosperity. If you breathe a breath of intercession, Many a knot will be untied from our affairs. Since, O pure pearl, in the sleep of death You made your sleeping place on the bed of dust, The heaven is agitated by jealousy of the earth, And has said: 'Would that I were dust!' How long will you sleep alone in the bridal chamber, Not sweeping the dust of annihilation from your chamber? How long will you sit in the veil of concealment, Closing the door upon these earth-dwellers? How long, estranged from your hyacinth hair, Will the comb of the heart sit upon a hundred branches? How long, without your pure narcissus eye, due to dust, Will the house of kohl be dark and dim? How long will your sandals, deprived of kissing your feet, Be paired with thousands of griefs and pains? Your sleep has exceeded seven hundred and eight hundred years, Arise and stand tall, for it has gone beyond the limit! Bring forth your hand from the Yemeni cloak, Bring forth your palm from the shroud of the coffin. Comb your musk-scented tresses, Apply kohl to your world-beholding narcissus eye. Don the robe of honor of coquetry for manifestation, Don the ruby-embroidered mantle. Having put the sandals of majesty on your feet, Step gracefully out of the door of your chamber. Empty the arch of the mihrab of the base, And raise its head with pride to Saturn. Free the pulpit from those without stature, And elevate its worth by your arrival. Begin anew the sermon of the community and religion, Begin anew the disclosure of the secrets of certainty. Unveil the face of the Siddiq, Tear the veil of every heretic. Take the whip of justice from Umar's hand, And strike it upon the head of every stubborn head. Shed sweat from modesty like Uthman, And pour rain upon the field of loyalty. Make powerful the paw of the Lion of God, And skin two or three foxes. Make the oppressors sit down to some business, Pour their water and settle their dust. Snatch the crown of the kingdom from the heads of the vile, Snatch the throne of fortune from the weaklings. Make the forearms of the crooked-writers into pens, So that they may write in a straight fashion. Send a host of fear to the pathless ones, And send a guide to every realm. And if you do not wish, from the realm of eternity, To turn your face toward this city of annihilation, Renew the covenant of the good covenant-keeper, Give your succession to Mahdi. Plant his banner over the sanctuary of Batha, Strike his sword of wrath upon the heads of enemies. The cradle of Jesus from the high heavens Spread out in this earth filled with oppression. Place the burden of the Dajjal-like ones on the donkey, And drive them out into the wilderness of non-existence. The sinners are helpless and disorganized, With their hands of hope holding onto your hem. Especially Jami, who is your humblest servant, Whose weeping eye looks for your sweet smile. He has no share in obedience, So move your lips to intercede for him, So that he may save his coin from this abyss of fear, Safely from the highway robbery of the submissive devil.
