وان دگر گرچه عاشق صور است
لیک معشوقش از صور دگر است

حسن معنیست دیده در صورت
چشم ازان دوخته ست بر صورت

هست در دیده حسن معنی خام
نیست بی صورتش ز معنی کام

سوی صورت نظر نکرده نخست
نیست در دید حسن معنی جست

نیست بیرون ز شیشه رنگین
نور بی رنگ دیدنش آیین

می کند سوی دید نور آهنگ
لیک در شیشه های رنگارنگ

شیشه گر بشکند معاذالله
هست در دید نور حرف اله

English translation

And that other, though he is a lover of form, Yet his beloved is of a different form. It is the beauty of meaning he has seen in form, Which is why his eyes are fixed upon form. To his eyes, the beauty of meaning is raw; He has no enjoyment of meaning without form. Without first casting a glance toward form, The search for the beauty of meaning does not exist in his vision. It is not possible, outside of colored glass, For it to be his habit to behold the colorless light. He makes his way toward beholding the light, Yet only within colorful glasses. If the glass should break—God forbid!— What remains in his vision is the light of the Divine.
