بخش ۲۳ - اشارت به عذاب قبر و سؤال منکر و نکیر / Section 23 - Allusion to the Torment of the Grave and the Questioning of Munkar and Nakir

هر که را زیر خاک شد منزل
دو فرشته به صورتی هایل
پیشش آیند ز ایزد متعال
امتحان را ازو کنند سؤال
که خدای تو و نبی تو کیست
زان همه دین که بود دین تو چیست
گر بگوید جوابشان به صواب
برهد از غم عذاب و عقاب
فسحت قبر او بیفزایند
روزنی در بهشت بگشایند
گردد او را عیان چه صبح و چه شام
که کجا دارد از بهشت مقام
ور نگوید جوابشان در خور
آهنین گرزی آیدش بر سر
ناله او به وقت گرز خوری
بشنود غیر آدمی و پری
آدمی و پری اگر شنوند
همه از خواب و خور نفور شوند
تنگی گورش آنچنان فشرد
که دو پهلوی او ز هم گذرد
بگشایند روزنی ز سقر
که در آن بنگرد به شام و سحر
جای خود را ببیند از دوزخ
آوخ از حالتی چنین آوخ
English translation
Whoever makes their abode beneath the dust, Two angels of formidable appearance, Shall come before him from God Almighty, To interrogate him for the sake of trial. [They ask,] 'Who is your Lord, and who is your Prophet? Of all the creeds, which was your religion?' If he answers them correctly, He shall escape the sorrow of torment and retribution. They will expand the spaciousness of his grave, And open a window for him into Paradise. It will become manifest to him, both morning and evening, Where his place in Paradise lies. But if he does not answer them fittingly, An iron mace shall descend upon his head. His groaning at the moment of being struck with the mace, Will be heard by all creatures except humans and jinn. If humans and jinn were to hear it, They would all recoil from food and sleep. The narrowness of his grave shall squeeze him so tightly, That his two sides [ribs] will pass through each other. They will open a window for him into Hell-fire, Through which he will look morning and evening, Beholding his place in Hell; Alas for such a state, alas!

One is that Time is a cutting sword and the other is that Indeed, part of protection from sin is not having the power to commit it.'
