«الف » اسم پیشتر از «با»
بود بسیار ظاهر و پیدا

«بی » چو آمد پدید الف در بسم
مختفی گشت همچو جان در جسم

بود پیش از وجود خلق جهان
سر وحدت چنانکه بود عیان

حکم کثرت چو یافت وصف ظهور
سر وحدت شد اندر آن مستور

نور وحدت ز کثرت ظاهر
گرچه بس ظاهر است و بس قاهر

لیک شیطان به مکر و زرق و حیل
پوشد آن را ز دیده احول

اینست آن سر که سایلی آگه
از نبی در حروف بسم الله

چون ز نا بودن «الف » پرسید
گفت شیطانش از میان دزدیدن

English translation

"Alif," the name prior to "Ba," Was highly manifest and apparent. When "Ba" appeared, the "Alif" in Bism Became hidden like the soul in the body. Before the existence of the world's creation, The secret of Unity was clearly manifest. When the rule of multiplicity obtained the quality of manifestation, The secret of Unity became concealed within it. The light of Unity from the manifest multiplicity, Although it is extremely manifest and dominant, Yet Satan, with deceit, hypocrisy, and tricks, Covers it from the squinting eye. This is the secret that a knowledgeable seeker, Inquiring of the Prophet about the letters of Bismillah, When he asked about the absence of "Alif," The Prophet said: "Satan stole it from the midst."
