English translation

O heart, how long in this metaphorical palace Will you play with dust like children? You are that hand-reared, bold bird Whose nest was outside of this palace. Why did you become a stranger to that nest? Why, like the lowly, did you become the owl of this ruin? Shake your wings and feathers from the mixture of dust, Fly up to the anchor of the palace of the heavens. Behold the dance of the blue-robed ones, Scattering the robe of light upon the world. All of them have taken up the day-and-night cycle, Taking the victorious path toward the destination. Yet each one, like a ball in its specific motion, Has become a dancer under the mallet of devotion. One has set its face from the west to the east, Another has sunk a ship in the west. By one, the tumult of the day has become warm, Another has become the illuminator of the night. One has printed the letter of happiness, Another has severed the thread of fortune. They are so ardent in traversing the stages That they know no rest from this movement. No weariness comes to them from the toil of the road, No pain in their waists and no soreness in their feet. Who knows what these many are engaged in? All turn their faces, but toward whom do they look? At every moment they display a new design, Yet they themselves are not worthy of being the designer. How long will you hand over the reins to doubt And bring the face of 'This is my Lord' to each of them? Like Abraham, knock on the door of the kingdom of certainty, Sing the melody of 'I love not those that set'. Diminish every illusion and abandon every doubt, Turn the face of 'I have turned my face' toward the One. See One, know One, speak One, Desire One, call One, seek One. From every atom there is a face and a path to Him, And it is a witness to the proof of His existence. It is engraved on the heart of every intelligent person That designs must have a designer. If thousands of letters are visible on a tablet, Not a single 'Alif' will stand straight without a scribe. In this ruin, one cannot find a brick Outside the mold of a good-natured creator. On the brick, it is written by the pen of fingers That a hand of wisdom has kneaded it. When you read this word from the tablet of the brick, You will not remain heedless of the brick-maker. With all these creations manifest in the world, Why is your mind not occupied with the Creator? When you see the work, keep your face toward the worker; Deduce the worker from the work. At the final breath, from which no one has an escape, Your concern will be with none but the worker. Turn your face of devotion to Him from all sides, And seek from Him the seal of your work in happiness.
