تولا حکیمیان به ابی عبدالله محمدبن علی حکیم الترمذی رضی الله عنه کنند. وی یکی از ائمهٔ وقت بود اندر جملهٔ علوم ظاهری و باطنی و وی را تصانیف و نکت بسیار است و قاعدهٔ سخن و طریقش بر ولایت بود و عبارت از حقیقت آن کردی و از درجات اولیا و مراعات ترتیب آن و او خود علی حده بحری است بیکرانه با عجوبات بسیار. و ابتدای کشف مذهب وی آن است که بدانی که خداوند تعالی را اولیا است که ایشان را از خلق برگزیده است. و همتشان از متعلقات بریده و از دعاوی نفس و هواشان واخریده و هر کسی را بر درجتی قیام داده و دری از معانی بر ایشان گشاده. و اندر این معنی سخن بسیار است و چند اصل او را شرح باید داد تا معلوم گردد. اکنون من بر سبیل اختصار تحقیق این ظاهر کنم. و اوصاف سخن مردمان را اندر آن بیارم.

English translation

The Hakimians pledge their allegiance to Abu Abdallah Muhammad ibn Ali al-Hakim al-Tirmidhi, may Allah be pleased with him. He was one of the imams of his time in the whole of the exoteric and esoteric sciences, and he has many writings and subtle sayings. The foundation of his discourse and his path was upon sainthood (walaya), and he gave expression to the reality of it, and of the degrees of the saints and the observance of their order; and he himself is, apart from all others, a boundless sea with many wonders.

The beginning of the unveiling of his doctrine is that you should know that God Most High has saints whom He has chosen out of His creation, and whose aspiration He has cut off from attachments, and whom He has delivered from the claims of the lower self and its passions, and He has established each one upon a degree, and opened for them a door of meanings.

On this matter there is much to say, and several of his principles must be explained so that it may become known. Now I will, by way of brevity, make plain the outward sense of this, and I will set forth the descriptions of people's discourse concerning it.
