بخش ۱۴۱ - تتمه سخن / Section 141 - Conclusion of the Discourse

چون یکی لحظه گفت و گو کردند
هر فتوحی که بود آوردند

شیخ مالید دست و پیش نشست
برد اول به نان و حلوا دست

پاره ای خورد و پاره ای بگذاشت
پاره ای بخش غایبان برداشت

نقل و خرما به دست خود سره کرد
نامزد از برای شبچره کرد

بهر اهل فتوح فاتحه خواند
وز پی فاتحه معارف راند

گاه تفسیر گفت و گاه حدیث
گاه تسویل های دیو خبیث

یک زمان از سخن نیارامید
تا به نقل مشایخ انجامید

گاهی از شیخ خویش راند سخن
گاهی از شیخ شیخ پیر کهن

از کرامات آن دقایق خواند
وز مقامات این حقایق راند

سخنان گفت جمله پخته و نغز
لیک از پوست پی نبرد به مغز

چون تو باشی ز ذوق حال تهی
ذوق و حال کسان چه شرح دهی

خواجه را هیچ نی چه سود فغان
که فلان داشت این و بهمان آن

English translation

When they conversed for a moment, They brought forward whatever offerings there were. The Sheikh rubbed his hands and sat forward; He first stretched out his hand toward the bread and halva. He ate a portion and left a portion, And took a portion as a share for those who were absent. He selected sweets and dates with his own hand, And designated them as late-night snacks. He recited the Fatiha for the benefactors, And following the Fatiha, he discoursed on spiritual knowledge. Sometimes he spoke of Quranic exegesis and sometimes of Hadith, Sometimes of the deceptions of the wicked devil. For a single moment he did not rest from speaking, Until he concluded with narrating stories of the Sheikhs. Sometimes he spoke of his own Sheikh, Sometimes of his Sheikh's Sheikh, the ancient elder. He read subtle points of the miracles of that one, And expounded truths from the spiritual stations of this one. He spoke words that were all mature and exquisite, Yet he did not penetrate from the outer husk to the inner kernel. When you yourself are empty of the ecstasy of spiritual experience, How can you describe the ecstasy and spiritual state of others? The master has nothing of his own; what use is his shouting, 'Such-and-such had this, and so-and-so had that'?
