English translation

I begin in the name of Allah, the Beneficent, The Merciful, whose kindness is continuous. With the dew of this water of life, I give life to the hearts of the saved. I moisten the tongue of the musk-scattering pen To perfume this opening title. This is the musk-bag of the Tatar deer; This is the scent of the perfumer's tray. It is the sweet-breathed bud of the garden of eternity; It is the freshly arrived fruit of the branch of generosity. It opened the door of the unseen upon the intellect's face; It placed the tablet upon the book of 'No Doubt' (La Rayb). The design of every tablet of this is a letter of loyalty; It is a guide to Paradise for the seekers. Happy is the one who, when turning from this door, Sought the fragrance of Paradise and hastened to Paradise. Paradise is nothing but magnificent secrets Which are enclosed in it letter by letter. You cannot speak or breathe a word Unless you close your lips from the very beginning. Meaning: O you who are content with this Name, Close your lips to all but this Name! Its 'Seen' from the battlements of the dome of the Throne Casts a pitch-black shadow upon the camphor-white carpet. Meaning: when the sun, like a sharp sword of conflict, Is fierce upon you from the heavens, flee into this shadow. Opened to you from every loop of its 'Meem' Is a window of blessing from the garden of delight. Every 'Alif' is a thorn to the enemy's soul, Or rather, a nail in the eye of his heart. The orderly speech of the tongue was diminished Until it reached sweet fulfillment from its 'Lam'. Look at its 'Ha' which, flowing with effort, Becomes two streams of honey in your throat. The wounded heart was blessed and healed from its sore; It found the sore to be its finest ointment. Its 'Ha' – far be it that at the time of reckoning It should be anything but the teller of the number of paradises. The brow of its 'Noon' is that qibla of secrets From which the heart begins its prayer. Its 'Ya' is a tenth of the verses of beauty; Its perfect ten is the description of perfection. Its vocal movements (harakat), from the abundance of blessings, Have given movement to the heart's traces of life. Its pauses (sakanat), guiding towards serenity, Lead the soul into the protection of God's grace. Its dots are like shining stars, Serving as missiles against the strong-willed devils. The shape of its Shaddah, which looks like a comb, Separates the meaning of intensity from softness. O Jami, this pure witness of the unseen, Whose pure fragrance blows from the collar, Found the manner of self-manifestation from you, Found the form of face-unveiling from you. You made her crown-exalted with the Basmala, And made the necklace of monotheism her shoulder-belt. In the ear of the heart of those of insight, There is no ornament better than this necklace of pearls.
