English translation

David spoke to God in secret, Saying, 'O Thou who art free from need and want, What is the wisdom in the creation of creatures, Of which the vision of humankind falls short?' He said, 'I was a treasure full of pearls, Concealed from the eye of every gem-appraiser. By Myself, in Myself, all those pearls I beheld, without the mediation of any manifestation. I desired to display those concealed jewels Outwardly from My own Essence, So that, outside of this nest of mystery, Their determinations would become distinct from one another, All would find their way to existence, And become aware of themselves and of other than themselves. I created some gem-appreciators So that they might untie the knots of those pearls, Manifesting the pearl of beauty, So that the market of love would become hot. They adorn the face of the beautiful ones with knowledge, And thereby increase the love of the lovers.' What is that treasure? The treasure of God's Essence. And those jewels? The jewels of the Names. The Names were hidden within the Essence; They became visible through the manifestation of existent beings. The Names possessed a concealed beauty, But from the degrees of potentiality, By a single self-disclosure, that hidden beauty Became manifest in the loci of possibility. Every blessed beauty and perfection That is scattered throughout the world, Know it to be the reflection of that perfection and beauty, Detailed from the level of integration. See the attribute of knowledge, for example, Manifested in the mirrors of scholars.
