English translation

Man is pure by original nature, And through purity is capable of all attributes. Whichever attribute he becomes a seeker of, Becomes dominant over his nature. If he turns toward the character of an angel, He quickly becomes angelic in nature and character. But if a demonic deed arises from him, He becomes worse than a demon through his bad deeds. O you who have not strayed from the primordial nature, Do not alter your nature. Strive, strive, so that in the realm of the heart, You may attain the qualities of angels. Do not surrender the reins to trickery and deceit, Do not become a workshop for beasts and demons. But if your nature has not remained sound, And has instead become sickened by the ailments of the ego, Disengage yourself from the desires of your ego, Cure every attribute with its opposite. If you are miserly, strive for generosity and bounty, Make the offering of dinars and dirhams your practice. And if you are greedy, be content with what is granted, Adopt no banner but contentment. If your ego gains strength from speech, Seal your lips from words with the stamp of silence. But if silence has become its share, You should open your lips to discourse; A discourse that is the key to truth and correctness, Not one that increases distance and separation. If intellect and sacred law dictate speech, Do not stay quiet out of personal whim or desire. And if selling words is not pleasant, Take your baggage to the shore of silence.
